LET IT TAKE ITS TIME
It was the
beginning of September. She had arrived at the workplace where she would begin
her internship. While waiting to be greeted, she looked around timidly. She
listened to the people rushing around, some were talking on the phone at their
desks, and the voices rising from the meeting room. It was her first time in a
work environment, and everyone at the workplace seemed like experts to her.
She felt alone among those people. She sighed, wondering if she could ever be like them. She had just graduated; of course, she needed time. As she wondered how she could learn the dynamics of the job quickly, the head of the department greeted her, and they headed to the small meeting room together.
The
department head asked her what details of the profession she was interested in
and whether she had developed any projects at school. Then provided information
about the project she would do during her internship. She had to research and
learn many things to be able to do the required project. As she thought about
these things, her heart beat fast and she felt like she could not do it.
What others
could do in two minutes sometimes took her hours to complete. Even though she
felt inadequate, she persevered.
The topics
and words discussed in the office were new to her. It was like a foreign
language. She looked up
unknown words on her phone and watched people carefully. Signs indicated that
working life would not be easy for Gülben...
Ah, those
painful days...
She spent a
lot of time trying to fix a small mistake in her project. For days, she was
left alone with the pain of not being able to fix that mistake. If she hadn't
gotten help, who knows when she would have solved it. Her colleague Şahin solved
it in ten minutes. She looked at Şahin with admiration. He was a genius in her
eyes, but he didn't know it.
Being determined, day by day, Gülben learned more. She made mistakes, but her experience grew. Every evening she went home tired, but stronger.
One day, the
team needed a new intern. The manager asked Gülben to join the interviews.
When she saw
the student, she remembered the days when she first started her internship.
Oh,
what days they were…
It was as if she
had stepped into a time tunnel. Her memories passed like a movie. The manager’s
voice woke her up. The interiew has already terminated. After a long meeting, Gülben
wanted to drink a cup of tea.
She went to the kitchen, poured herself a cup of tea, and took a sip, but she wished she hadn't. The tea wasn't brewed yet, and it left a bad taste in her mouth. Selvi, the kitchen assistant, had just brewed the tea. It needed some more time to drink.
“The
tea is not ready yet,” she said. “Wait a little. It will taste better when it
takes its time.”
Life
is like tea.
- Why do people want everything so fast?
- Why is it hard to give ourselves time?
- Why do we compare ourselves with others and feel sad?
- Why don’t we see that struggling at the beginning is normal?
While
waiting, she drifted back into her past again. She remembered the times when
she tried to do the job but couldn't. Gülben couldn't forget that feeling.
Actually, looking back, she thought about how sincere and charming she had
been. A small smile appeared on her face. She hugged that intern whose job
application had been accepted and said, “Leave it to time. As long as you
struggle toward your goal, you'll learn the job anyway. Don't let negative
outcomes get you down. There will be difficulties, of course, but try to enjoy
where you are. A path you can't walk with joy will wear you out. Keep going on
your path with determination.”
A glass of tea shouldn't have moved us this much. While
Gülben was chatting with her past self, the tea had already brewed. She poured
it into her cup and tried to savor its flavor. The beautiful scent, color, and
warmth of that tea had already brought her back to the present. To drink that
delicious tea, you have to wait patiently for it to brew. You have to let it
brew. Just like when we start a new job… Let life brew with pleasure.
Since the beginning of humanity, Our greatest friend and enemy has remained the same: The person in the mirror...

Wuhuuuuuu being an intern is not easy... Dedication, hard work and determination..... All we want to be succassful in life but most of the time we act with no patience. I believe the tea metaphore is so good to remember....
